I really enjoy this piece. The form of the central character is captured very well.

The way that the background figures' eyes get brighter as they recede into the distance is interesting.

We can see good understanding of composition too, with the lines of inanimate objects (the rocks in the foreground, the lines that radiate from the figure's back, the bottom edge of the flag, the flagpole itself) all directing our gaze towards the figure's face.

The contrast between the large, bright areas of the breasts/arms and the large areas of shadow on the sides of the torso make this area stand out very strongly; even moreso than the head, which draws the eye away from the face and could be distracting to the viewer. Note that we will, I believe, generally look at the face of a human figure due to social conditioning.

If it is decided that the contrast requires fixing, I would suggest that the artist darkens the area behind the head. This would increase the contrast between the backdrop and the hair, thus (hopefully) bringing the head into dominance.

I'm not a master of composition so this critique should be compared with others before the artist makes an informed judgement of their piece.
